Chapters 8-9

I have only seen a cougar in behind the cage wires in a zoo. To have one stare you down with nothing in between you and it, that would be exciting and terrifying. I wonder if she had not dropped her gun, she could have shot it, or been to scared. I think she could have shot it. She is a good shot and her natural ability would just kick in. I think it was wrong of Billy to not stay close by Georgie, what was he really thinking?

Chapter 7 Thoughts

Georgie is showing that she is a very smart girl. Her pride almost made her sneak off or try to get Billy to go. She realized though, that she wanted to find out what had really happened between Billy and her sister. I think she also knew he would be good to have around. Billy seems almost the opposite her Georgie herself.
I like the part of the book where she says, "It's funny how months of memories can flash through a person's head in moments."  Then she acknowledges that it takes much longer to write it down or say it aloud. What you think through as a writer takes so much more time to put on paper or computer screen when done right and with pride and purpose.

Chapter 6 Thoughts

We are finding out Billy and Agatha have had a long history together. They were friendly before Mr. O. I am wondering why she turned Billy down way back then, but they kissed much later on. Georgie's flashbacks are going to be very important when trying to figure out why Agatha really left. Do you have as vivid memories of events in your life, when you remember something?

Chapter 5

I do not think Georgie would make it on her own without Billy. I am glad he is going along. I love the symbolism of the difference in guns that Georgie and Billy use. Georgie is a deep observant young lady. I think Billy will be much deeper than she first believes. I think Georgie's Mom knew she may go after Agatha and that she may be alive, but for some reason ignored her feelings. I think this because it adds to the manny layers of the characters, which this books seems to explore.

Chapter 4

I thought it was interesting that Georgie had to go to Billy and ask for a horse. Of all people, but also maybe the only one who would help. That part was well written. It remains a secret what was said after Billy and Agatha's kiss. This will be important later on in the story I am sure.
This book seems to be full of symbolism from leaves and how they drop to the pigeon feathers that fly. It was no coincidence that Agatha left with pigeoners and was telling the story of the old man and the pigeons.

Chapter 3

It seems like Agatha and Georgie saw the world very differently. Agatha wanted to leave home and learn more, she was not contend with Placid. Georgie is a tomboy that is content to carry on the family business, the store. Despite these differences they have a strong bond and cannot stay mad with one another for long. Their love is strong and deep. I do not think Agatha really knew if she wanted to marry Billy or Mr. Olmstead because she didn't stay mad at her sister long. She just wanted more than Placid could offer, or more than a living as an inheritance that is as good as any as Georgie put it. I think Agatha knew she was going to go that night in bed that Georgie was remembering. She just didn't how, when or with whom. I wonder what was said between Billy and her when they kissed?

Chapter 2 Thoughts

I think Georgie looked up to her sister very much. She called her the 8th wonder of her world when she should in the middle of the great cloud of pigeons spinning under the umbrella, or parasol as it is called. She called her a friend also. She regrets not going out there with her, I think she does not want to regret not looking for her. I wonder if the dress digging into her armpits that she wore to the funeral is symbolism for something? What do you think?

Chapter 1 Thoughts

The story is being told by Georgie. She seems to notice a lot of what is unspoken. She knowns in her heart her sister Agatha is still alive. Agatha seems to have had 2 men interested in her. Georgie does not seem interested in boys. Georgie seems to have a strong view of right and wrong and speaks up when she sees wrong. I think that is why she told one man her sister was interested in about the other. She felt she had to, it was the right thing, to do. She also felt that it was the right thing for her grandfather to go and look for her sister, but he doesn't seem to want to. This is why I guess Georgie goes out on her own to find her at 16 years of age.
